Dr. Arthur Bell was born September 10th, 1818, in the county of Armagh, Ireland, where he studied medicine under his father, Dr. Robert Bell, who was a native of Largan, Ireland. He emigrated to the United States in 1842 and landed at New Orleans. He came to Illinois in the same year and settled in Monroe county, near Waterloo. In 1844 he moved to Rushville, Schuyler county, where he began the drug business. In 1845 he moved to Canton, where he has carried on the drug business ever since. He has resided in the first ward ever since his removal to Canton, and in 1859 he added hardware to his business, in the same building.
